Our projects aim to achieve two main goals. The first is to make the project as independent as possible from international sponsors. Our aim is to create a African project that is run and mainly financed in Africa itself. For this goal we startet projects that allow us to produce our own food (e.g. farming and animal husbandry). These projects are a valuable addition to the food we buy on markets. Additionally we try to add alternative ways of income to the money we get from the sponsors. Through the generous help of sponsors we were able to establish some street vendor/snack bar stalls that generate monthly income and support our project.

The second goal is to provide a basic education for the children of the project and the sourrounding families by initiating a school and a library project. This way the organisers of the project teach the children that can not afford to go to schools some basic education.

All these projects have shown great prospect so far however most are still in the initialization phase.

For more information on the projects and on how you can help us with these see below:
Agriculture
Our Idea is to be as independent from donations as possible. As one of the main costs we have is the food for all our growing children we started a small agriculture project. We are growing casava (maniok), beans, pineapples and maize on a small plot of land. This plot is not nearly sufficient to provide all the food we need but it gives us the opportunity to add some special food as well as additional vitamins to the food.

As Uganda is a tropical country thoretically multiple yields per year would be possible. We can however only harvest in the rainy season.
A big concern with this project are the droughts that come more or less every year to Uganda and that are devastating for the yield. In some years we do not have enough yield to replant our fields and we have to buy additional seeds.
We make sure that the children learn how to take care of a farm.
Animal husbandry
Additionally to planting crops we startet to raise animals. in the moment the project has multiple chickens and a cow. The chicken provide eggs for the children and help us to add essential proteins to thier diets.

Additionally we were able to buy a cow, the money for which was donated by a fund raising project in a school in Germany. We are very happy to say that this cow now gave birth to the first calf so our little herd started growing.

Our future plan is to keep breeding chickens and cows and maybe add some goats to the project if we can gat the funding.
Alternative income
In order to provide a steady income for the project independant from donations. We are looking for alternative sources of income. Through the generosity of a sonsor we were able to buy the material for two street food stalls at which we are selling chapatis (indian flat breads) as well as rolex (scrabled eggs, cabbage, tomato wrapped in a chapati) and some other street food. These stalls generate monthly income that can be used for the project.
We would like to add more ways of income to our repertoire. As we however invest all the money we gain into the project we have to rely on donations to invest in this kind of long tern finacial support.
School/Library Project
At the moment we provive school fees for 14 children. However there are a lot of children in the project for whom we can not provide school fees. In the moment our people try to teach the children some lessons whenever they can, however our dream is to build a class room and build our own little school. For this we need funds to build a roof and for the equipment (a small blackboard, chalk, some other material) We already have a plot of land and started building the first walls. If enough founds can be raised we would like to employ a professional teacher.
The first planes for the new schools are made.

We want to build a school consisting of seven small classrooms a kitchen, a staff room, an office, latrines and a storage room.
For this we have calculated a total cost of 81,347 US$ or 260,309,250 UGX.

The costs will be split into the following:

If you want more information please send us an e-mail.on admin@masakastreetchildren.org

We would like our children to get the opportunity to read boks in Luganda and English as well. The village has a small public library however most books there are not children books. We woul like to have a small library for the project that mostly consists of books for children. We are always thankful when we get books donated to our project. For the postal adress see below.
Hiring help

We would like to hire another full time worker who can do some of the managment and work with the children. However paying the wages is a problem with ur current finacial situation
